Regional rangatahi adolescent inpatient service

The regional rangatahi adolescent inpatient service is the acute adolescent inpatient unit for the central region. The service is for rangatahi aged 13 to 17 who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health problems.

How to get to Kenepuru Community Hospital

Visiting hours are:

  • Monday to Friday from 4pm to 8pm
  • Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

We can provide overnight accommodation for whānau from outside the Wellington region.


Our services

  • mental health nurses to help with your medication, advocacy and assessment
  • mental health support workers who focus on your personal needs
  • psychological assessment and treatments
  • psychiatrists who oversee your treatment including your medication 
  • support with families
  • education on managing your recovery, health and wellbeing
  • help connecting you with your community
  • cultural assessments where appropriate
  • whānau-centered care and treatment with a focus on recovery and supporting you when you leave the unit.

We provide a bicultural service based on kaupapa Māori and mainstream treatments.


Referral information

Referrals to RRAIS are accepted from local child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) or a child and adolescent psychiatrist.
