Services we provide

We are a community mental health team covering Wellington, Porirua, Kāpiti, and the Hutt Valley.

We provide assessment and treatment for young people experiencing psychosis.

Psychosis

We may support clients and their whānau for up to 2 or sometimes 3 years.

What you can expect from our service

First we will help you work out (assess) whether you are experiencing psychosis. To do this we will talk with you about what has been happening. If possible we will also talk to your whānau or other people who know you well. You can come to our office, or we can come to you.

If the assessment shows you are experiencing psychosis, we will work with you to develop a treatment plan. You will start seeing us for regular appointments. We encourage you and your whānau to take part in developing the treatment plan.

Your treatment

Your treatment team may be made up of:

  • nurses
  • occupational therapists
  • psychiatrists
  • psychologists
  • social workers
  • Workfirst clinicians.

You will have a care manager who will be your main contact at the service. They will co-ordinate the care you receive from us.

Education

An important part of your treatment is learning about psychosis and the things that may trigger it. We can help you understand:

  • what you can do to stay well
  • what you can do if you have another episode of psychosis.

We offer education individually or within a group.

Medication

You may benefit from medication at some stage of your treatment. A psychiatrist will first check your general health and discuss the option of medication with you. They will explain the benefits and risks. They will meet with you regularly to see how you are doing.

Therapy and other treatments

We can also offer:

  • talking therapies
  • group work therapy
  • home visits
  • family support
  • help with education and employment
  • activity and music groups.

Groups are a good opportunity to meet others, have some fun and try new challenges.
