About the Māori monitoring and equity group

The Māori monitoring and equity group (MMEG) provides independent advice to the National screening unit (NSU) to deliver quality and trusted screening programmes.

The MMEG takes a population health perspective and an evidence-based approach when they provide Māori leadership. All decisions of the MMEG are by consensus.

The MMEG seeks input from stakeholders to any key decisions, including:

  • whānau
  • hapū
  • iwi
  • Māori communities
  • Māori providers
  • Māori consumers
  • others as required.

Our objectives

The group provides Māori leadership to the NSU:

  • on the strategic issues in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of current and future screening programmes
  • on strategic issues related to population health screening and its impact on Māori health and inequalities
  • that is clinically and technically sound.

The group also:

  • will develop a collective equity assessment framework to reducing inequalities in health for Māori — which helps everyone
  • reviews new technological advances that may impact Māori Health.

Our members

The group has up to 12 members who are appointed for their expertise in Māori health and screening programmes.
