The antenatal screening for Down syndrome and other conditions technical working group provides independent advice and expertise. They make sure that screening services:
- are high quality
- are equitable
- support informed choice and a positive experience.
The group has 4 key principles:
- involve key stakeholder groups
- use the best available evidence to inform their work
- have a strong focus on quality improvement and equity
- have a population perspective with an understanding of the principles of screening programmes.
The group is responsible for:
- providing review, critique and interpretation of screening reports and making recommendations
- providing advice on technical and clinical aspects of screening
- providing advice on the strategic direction of this screening.
Technical working group members
Chairperson
The screening clinical lead is the chairperson for the group. If unavailable, the chair will delegate this role to the manager, antenatal and childhood screening.
Members
The group is made up of members who collectively have wide knowledge and experience of antenatal screening for Down syndrome and other conditions. The group has representation from:
- laboratory
- maternal fetal medicine
- radiology and sonography
- genetic services
- obstetrics
- midwifery
- equity
- general practice.
