Patient communication by secure email

Health New Zealand use verified, secure email addresses to send appointment dates or health information to patients. This is optional. If you prefer not to use email, we will continue to send letters by post.

Patient email verification

To make sure we have the right email address for you, we will:

  • email you to confirm the address we have on file, the year that you were born (for identification) and ask if you agree to receive health information by email
  • send one email for each person — if you have a shared family email address, you may receive more than one email
  • send up to 2 reminders if you do not respond
  • continue posting letters if you do not have email or choose not to use it

You can update the email address we have on file for you anytime — let our reception or booking teams know at your next visit.

We can only have one verified email address for each person. If you need information for a child to be sent to 2 addresses, we can note the second address on our file.

If you get an incorrect email

If you receive an email addressed to someone else, or for someone who is deceased, let us know as soon as possible so we can update our records.
