Women's health services are supported by clinical guidance. They are also supported by local, regional, and international medical colleges, and accredited guideline organisations.
Women's health services in Aotearoa New Zealand
The scope of women's health services is broad. Services are provided in primary care through healthcare providers such as:
- GP's
- nurse practitioners
- midwives
- physiotherapists.
Services are provided in secondary care by:
- obstetrics and gynaecology services
- urogynaecology services
- gynaecology oncologist services.
Services include
The services include assessment and care for:
- abnormal uterine bleeding and menstrual disorders including menorrhagia, dysmenorrhoea, metrorrhagia
- pelvic organ prolapse
- reproductive health including contraception, family planning, fertility services
- cancer screening and treatment
- cervical, endometrial, ovarian and vulvo-vaginal abnormalities
- maternal care, including urgent care and mental health support
- specific conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic pain, dyspareunia, urinary incontinence and other urogynaecology.
